3rd International Biofuels Conference,
18-19 January 2006, New Delhi
Winrock International India (WII), a not for profit organization, has been actively engaged in promoting diffusion of cleaner technologies in various end-use sectors. As part of its mandate, WII proactively supports mainstreaming of various renewable energy technologies as a means of addressing the issues of energy security, environmental concerns as well as empowerment of the deprived population. One of the upcoming technological options in this regard is biofuels, both as a fuel for the transport sector as well as a source of energy for remote village electrification. WII is deeply involved in the subject of biofuels that not only includes basic research and action research programmes for setting up of demonstration plants based on this technology but also various outreach initiatives like organization of conferences/roundtables, study tours (both national as well as international), publishing of newsletters, compendiums and a dedicated website.
In our efforts to promote this renewable energy option, WII organized the 3rd International conference on Biofuels in New Delhi from January 18-19, 2006. The conference covered policy, markets, technology and financing issues pertaining to the subject of biofuels. Several stakeholders and eminent speakers addressed this conference. Hon'ble Minister for Rural Development, Government of India, Dr Raghvansh Prasad Singh, and Hon'ble Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas and Panchayati Raj, Government of India, Mani Shankar Iyer, were the special guests. They also released the following three publications produced by Winrock International India. Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Cooperation Bulletin, Biofuels India newsletter, and The State of the World 2006: Focus India and China, Indian edition.
