About WII: Winrock International India (WII) is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, working in the areas of natural resources management, clean energy and climate change. WII has its project offices in Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh), Kawardha (Chhattisgarh) and Bangalore (Karnataka).
WII’s mission is “To develop and implement solutions that balance the need for food, income and environmental quality.”
WII focuses on four principal program areas - Energy and Environment (E&E); Natural Resources Management (NRM); Climate Change (CLC) and Outreach.
In each of these areas WII plans, monitors and implements projects, emphasizing the development of local institutions, leadership and skills at all levels.
WII works with a diverse set of partner institutions. WII collaborates with other NGOs, private sector, donor agencies and the Government. WII currently has 50 full-time staff, and a number of consultants, with plans to expand further with new projects coming its way. WII has recently been accorded recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Government of India.
Outreach Division:
The Outreach division is involved in the design, development and dissemination of a range of publications such as brochures, pamphlets, posters, newsletters, compendiums, and proceedings of conferences, books and electronic communication tools like websites. The division handles a number of information and communication related projects supported and sponsored by external funding agencies like the Ministry of Environment and Forests, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Indian Renewable Energy Development Agency (IREDA), Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), European Union, Ford Foundation, Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES), Japan, Stockholm Environment Institute, Sweden, and World Watch Institute, USA.
The division has in-house capabilities and state-of-the-art publishing infrastructure to make camera-ready copies for publishing. The Outreach group over the years has nurtured partnerships and networking arrangements with diverse organizations, nationally and internationally for producing high-quality publications and is expanding its role to emerge as a knowledge solution provider in the areas of energy, environment and natural resources conservation.
Core functions:
- Providing professional support as a copy editor of texts prepared by WII and other experts in order to ensure accuracy, clarity, cohesion and conformity with WII standards, policy and practice
- Helping establish and managing partnerships with the media to advocate on WII's innovative Projects
- Assisting in developing outreach and communications related project proposals for funding from donor agencies
Profile of the Candidate:
The incumbent should have a Masters Degree in English/Mass Communications/Journalism from a recognized university and/or equivalent/relevant experience in editing and is familiar with tools of modern information technologies.
S/he should have excellent communication skills and good judgment, discretion and flexibility; tact and negotiating skills. It is expected that the incumbent has up-to-date knowledge of current topics and issues and ability to identify new business opportunities; proven ability in information gathering, writing and editing to meet tight deadlines.
S/he should have at least 2-3 years of experience in research and content collation, developing communication strategies and in creating print and web-based materials in a leading NGO/media house/development institution. The incumbent should also have excellent networking, and PR skills.
