Solar home systems
Hindustan Times, Gurgaon Live, August 12, 2004
For Gurgaon residents, getting a solar home system (SHS) is now easier than ever before. More than 20 officers from the Gurgaon Gramin Bank underwent a training recently on the technicalities of lending for SHS projects. The training was organized at Hotel Shama, Gurgaon, under an initiative called SFCBA (Solar Finance Capacity Building Alliance) designed and organized by Delhi-based Winrock International India (WII).
WII has been working on commercializing clean energy in India. Joint partners in the alliance are Syndicate Bank and Bharathiya Vikas Trust (BVT), backed by technical assistance from USA-based Winrock International, the Institute for Sustainable Power, and Solar International Management.
The training course included a familiarization module designed to introduce the bankers to the technical and economic aspects of SHS, a finance module that instructed the bankers in the methods for lending for SHS, and a case study module that detailed actual structures and experiences.
