The Information and Communication Technology (ICT) group endeavors to develop and provide cost-effective ICT solutions in all spheres of WII’s activities. Broadly the group has three distinct functions as described below.
- ICT support to in-house WII activities
The ICT support to in-house activities has included development of intranet solutions to automate and facilitate on-line working of various administrative and accounting functions.
- ICT support to the WII program activities
The group is supporting the WII programs in coming up with efficient communication and information dissemination strategies specific to the projects or programs. The group even works with the program staff at the conceptual stage of project development to gain insights into the information and communication needs and to build these components into the projects. Most of the applications are web-based. The group is involved in developing and managing several program related web sites. Some of the examples are irenetindia.org, rupfor.org and recambodia.org. The web sites irenetindia.org and recambodia.org are multilingual (English & Hindi and English & Khamer respectively). In addition to these websites, the group manages the portal renewingindia.org and the official organizational website Winrock International India.
- Development of ICT based initiatives in the development sector
The ICT group is continuously engaged in identifying niche applications as well issues for ICT in the development sector. These applications include knowledge based enterprises, distance learning, small enterprises, capacity building, training and access to markets. The team is also working with select utilities to explore possibilities of the management of the revenue collection aspect of electricity supply in combination with various social and program interventions.
