Winrock International India (WII) produced a power tool to strengthen the role of marginalized natural resource managers in policymaking. Called the "Accessing Public Information" tool-kit, it helps to obtain and use information on various aspects related to the functioning of public agencies. This would lead to improving governance. The tool-kit can be also effectively used to increase transparency and accountability in government agencies and thus directly benefit marginalized groups such as wage labourers, tribal cultivators, and slum dwellers. The WII write-up describes the use of this tool-kit in the Indian context where it has been used for making effective the recently introduced Right to Information legislation.
Based on the project, an article has been submitted in a reputed international journal called Participatory Learning and Action. |
