Winrock International India prepared a brief paper on the changing ownership and management of state forest plantations in India for the International Institute for Environment and Development (IIED). The paper examines the changes in the ownership and management of forest plantations since the colonial times as well as the evolving demands on these. It also explores the potential of involving communities as well as the corporate sector for better management of the country's forest plantation estate. This paper has been included as a chapter in the book “Plantations, Privatization, Poverty and Power: Changing Ownership and Management of State Forests” edited by Mike Garforth and James Mayers, EARTHSCAN (2005).
