As part of the Winrock International country office, Winrock International India implemented the economic research on the productivity and sustainability of soil and waste resources relating to India’s semi-arid tropics, and assisted agricultural universities in conducting research and providing graduate education on the economics of soil and water resource in semi-arid tropical agriculture. This project was coordinated through ICRISAT-Hyderabad. A text book on "Natural Resources Economics - Theory and Application in India" edited by John Kerr et al was published by Oxford and IBH Publishing Co, New Delhi, in 1997.
