To develop a project for the World Health Organization (WHO) on sanitation for high-risk communities in urban and peri-urban areas of four countries in South Asia.
Poor sanitation and hygiene in urban and peri-urban areas has been an issue of grave environmental health concern in the countries of South and Southeast Asia. WII prepared a project proposal for WHO, through which it could develop an operational methodology to identify HRCs and recommend and implement appropriate intervention strategies for improvements in sanitation and hygiene in the four countries of India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Bhutan. WHO will undertake implementation of the project with financial assistance from other donors.
WII, through its work in the area of sanitation and health, addressed the problem to improve the health and living conditions of the millions of poor inhabiting the urban and peri-urban areas of South Asia.
Project Activities
The project proposal report titled, ‘Sanitation for High-risk Communities in South Asia’ prepared by WII has been reviewed by the Southeast Asia Regional Office of WHO.
