The Indian power sector has been the focus of reforms in recent years with several state utilities being restructured with the eventual objective of privatization.

The possible social impacts of such a reform process were discussed in a brief paper written by Dr P. Venkata Ramana of WII, as part of the global review of the subject undertaken by Hagler Bailly Services, USA, undertaken during February-April 2000.
