Governments, bilateral and multilateral organizations, and private enterprises across the world are keen on promoting renewable energy as a source of power. International financing is available to entrepreneurs who can come up with proposals that promise to contribute positively to the promotion and use of renewable energy in any country. Preparing this proposal however demands the ability to understand and meet donors’ requirements.

WII’s aim was to enhance capacity amongst different stakeholders at different levels on the ability to explore opportunities of financing renewable energy projects through international finance available with various donors across the globe.

The approach was two-pronged:

1. Conduct training programs for a mix of potential entrepreneurs, bankers and other stakeholders
2. Create a document for wider dissemination of information on international financing

Three training programs were organized, one each in Delhi, Pune and Mumbai. A manual on international financing mechanisms has been prepared for ready reference and submitted to MNRE.
