Background
The Energy Conservation Act, 2001 came into force in March 2002 and Energy Management Centre (EMC) is the State Designated Agency (SDA) for implementing the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 in the state of Kerala, in close coordination with Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power, Government of India. The success of the Act is directly related to the impact it has made in various sectors of the economy and periodical impact assessment is one of the meaningful functions to be carried out of SDA, as per BEE.
Objective
The objective of the project was to understand and evaluate the impact of Energy Conservation Act, 2001 based on the reports of the various stake holders of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 such as the energy auditors, energy managers, and energy intensive industries.
Activities
The major activities completed under the project were identification of major energy consumers in Kerala, which would, include all designated consumers, and other industries, buildings, major municipalities etc, collection of various energy efficiency measures undertaken in various energy consumers after enactment of Energy Conservation Act-2001 from various sources, analysis on collected information to draw conclusion on type of energy efficiency measures implemented and quantity of energy saved so far, sector wise and equipment wise energy efficiency potential tapped in the state and calculating the energy saving potential achieved through various schemes introduced by Bureau of Energy Efficiency to promote Energy Conservation Act-2001 and energy efficiency/energy conservation measures among others. |
