Background
Government of India has developed a scheme for energy efficiency labelling of equipment, i.e. Standards & Labelling Programme (S&L Programme) under clause (b) and (d) of section 14 of the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 (Central Act 52 of 2001). The S&L Programme was launched in May 2006 on voluntary basis for Air Conditioners, Refrigerators and Tube lights. The labelled products, however, started to appear in the markets only in February-March, 2007.
Objective
The objective of the project was to understand and evaluate the penetration of energy efficient equipment in the state at the micro level and macro level, i.e., at domestic, commercial, agricultural, industrial, transport sector and in Government owned sectors such as public sector, public buildings, autonomous bodies etc.
Activities
The major activities completed under the project include identification of manufacturers of various appliances, sales data collection of appliances from primary and secondary resources, survey on customers, dealers and shops in various places in Kerala for sales data collection of various appliances, analysis of data and estimation of energy conservation potential and measures to increase penetration of energy efficient appliances into market. |
