Background
In order to reduce carbon footprint, the administration at the Delhi-Mumbai Industrial Corridor Development Corporation (DMIC) chose to explore renewable energy alternatives for its specially demarcated Dholera Special Integrated Region (DSIR). A scoping study was thus necessitated that evaluated the possibility of using renewable energy options such as wind, biomass, solar and municipal solid waste. WII was therefore entrusted to carry out the study and report on the suitability of such alternatives for the proposed region.
Objective
As a part to review the existing practices, the project team studied and mapped RE installations across the world in settings similar to the DSIR. The action plan for the study therefore included several important steps such as conducting a field visit and understanding the site specifics, assessment of the potential RE resources and options, enumeration of the list of applications, understanding power requirement across different user groups (i.e. residential, commercial, industrial, municipal and institutional), analysis of case studies of RE installations both in India and abroad to understand the best use practices and mapping of suitable RE installations for each end-use sector.
The final report with all its findings was submitted to Halcrow and the recommendations from the pre-feasibility study were well appreciated. |
