Objective
The objective of the project was to assess techno-economic feasibility of high efficiency bagasse cogeneration in sugar mills up to 2,500 TCD and to recommend suitable strategies for promotion of cogeneration by review of status of cogeneration in these mills, identification of key barriers, and formulating solutions for overcoming the same.
- Review of status of sugar mills and bagasse cogeneration in India
- Assessment of possible offseason fuel linkages
- Conduct investment grade energy audit in a representative sugar mill for identification of energy conservation schemes
- Conduct techno-economic feasibility study of high – efficiency baggase cogeneration for small sugar mills (1,250 to 2,500 TCD) Review barriers (technological, institution, and financial) hindering the promotion of baggase cogeneration in these mills
- Mapping of energy efficient appropriate technologies / equipment for cogeneration and sugar processing along with major suppliers of the technology
- Review of the prevalent business models for bagasse cogeneration projects in India, fiscal incentives, and promotional programs and recommended the strategies for overcoming the major barriers and promotion of cogeneration in sugar mills of 1,250 to 2,499 TCD sugar mills.
Based on the project activities, it is estimated that the cogeneration potential from about 128 sugar mills of 1,250 to 2,499 TCD spread across 15 states is 1,074 MW. It involves deployment of high pressure boiler configurations of 60 ata and above against the conventional 22 ata or 32 ata pressure boilers used presently in the sugar mills. |
