Prototype Carbon Fund (PCF), the World Bank, promotes projects that achieve GHG reduction. This particular project was aimed under PCF at accessing funds for sale of GHG reduction from the project.

The project is based on Solid Waste and Energy Recycling Facility (SWERFÔ) Technology to generate power from municipal solid waste and located at Perungudi landfill site in Chennai City, Tamil Nadu, India. It will process 600 tonne per day (TPD) of municipal solid waste collected by the Corporation of Chennai (CoC) and delivered at the site. The process waste will be used to produce 14.85 MW using a gas-based power generation unit for supply to the TNEB grid. The technology has been developed by Energy Developments through its subsidiary Brightstar Environmental.

WII is carrying out the preparation of the required documentations of PIN, baseline study, estimation of emission reduction and the PDD, to be submitted to PCF.

PCF has given in-principle acceptance to procure the CO2 reductions generated by the proposed project.
