The ratification of the Kyoto protocol by the European Union and Japan, and firm indication by Russia at WSSD has brought into focus Clean Development Mechanism (CDM), which will provide project promoters an additional stream of revenue, enabling renewables to be competitive with conventional energy. An important barrier for the Indian renewable industry and other sectors of the economy accessing CDM funds is lack of understanding of the issue and how to prepare projects. WII, with its in-house capability on climate change in general and CDM in particular, is working with the industry to bridge this important barrier.

The following projects were carried out under WII’s CDM Technical Services:

• Supporting TA sugars to access PCF funds.
  
  
• Developing a CDM project design document (PDD) for Vestas RRB for CERUPT 2001.
