Jagadhari & Yamunanagar, Haryana is known as a progressive cluster of Utensil units. These units make aluminium utensils, Steel utensils and Brass sheets. The thermal energy is mainly consumed in Aluminium & Brass units, as it requires melting of raw material and shaping of final sheets to utensils/decorative products. In the Steel utensil units, only shaping of the steel to the final utensil is done and as such no thermal energy is used. So the main target industry for energy conservation is Aluminium and Brass industry. There are around 100-150 Alumimium utensil units, 50-75 Brass units and 100-150 steel utensil units in this cluster.
Objectives
To carry out a diagnostic study to assess the present status of energy consumption, suggest and implement energy conservation measures in selected units with an aim to make the Utensil sector energy efficient, profitable and explore the opportunities of Carbon credit potential.
Activities
Interaction with the local industry association so as to apprise them about the objective of the project and to identification of utensil units cluster with their help for further studies.
Preliminary Energy audit in selected units.
Selection of units to carry out the detailed energy audit based on their work procedure, energy usage, productions and willingness of entrepreneur to implement the recommended measures.
To demonstrate following energy conservation measures in utensil units
Modification of the furnace (Melting as well as annealing furnace)
Scientifically designed burners in place of in efficient locally made burners.
Heating & Pumping units.
Service tanks & their Insulation.
Provision of Blowers & Axial fans.
To carry out performance evaluation studies (monitoring and auditing) after implementation of energy conservation measures.
To assess the quantum of savings vis-à-vis Green House Gas reduction. The Viability of the project to get the CDM benefits would also be explored.
Organizing Awareness workshops in association with PCRA to sensitize the various stakeholders about the benefits achieved through application of energy conservation measures. These will be focused at:
Entrepreneurs and Bankers so as to make them aware about the benefits of energy conservation projects in this area. This initiative would sensitize bankers about the critical need of financing energy efficiency projects. This can be used as a platform by industry and banks to discuss issues related to project implementation and financing.
Training of workers and entrepreneur on better operating practices of equipments/furnaces at optimum efficiencies.
To prepare and submit a strategy/plan for replication of demonstrated energy conservation measures in the remaining units of the cluster in future.
