C.L. Gupta Exports Ltd is in manufacturing of wooden, glass and Brass handicrafts. The unit is totally Export Oriented Unit (EOU). Their major clients are Marks & Spencer, Total, Wall mart, IKEA. The manufacturing facility of the plant is located at J.P.Nagar, Moradabad-Delhi Highway (U.P).
The manufacturing process in this industry consumes lot of energy, both electrical as well as thermal. This has resulted in making the energy cost as one of the major input costs in the total production cost. Industry has approached Winrock International India (WII) to reduce its energy costs by an energy audit/ conservation studies in their plant.
Objectives
The overall objective was to identify, prioritize, and recommend a set of cost-effective energy conservation schemes, which would reduce the overall consumption of electricity and fuels in the plant without affecting the production or quality of products. Implementation of the above suggested measures led to reduction in the specific energy consumption, which resulted in reduced GHG emissions from the plant. The study would also explore the possibility of facilitating CDM benefits due to the reduction in GHG emissions.
Activities
Interaction with the local industry association so as to apprise them about the objective of the project and to identification of utensil units cluster with their help for further studies.
Preliminary energy audit: to understand the current energy consumption levels and identification of various energy saving potential areas.
Measurement of various utilities to estimate the energy saving potential.
Identification of energy saving projects.
Analysis of identified energy saving projects with respect to its cost benefits, and discussed the same with management.
Identification CDM potential from implementing above projects.
