Background
The Government of India has recently announced its ambitious National Policy on Biofuels. It aims at up-scaling the production and consumption of both bio-ethanol and biodiesel. Several factors have resulted in the sector experiencing a palpable shortage of feedstock, thereby pushing up biodiesel production and retail prices.
Objective
The project undertaken by WII aims at building a comprehensive database of different factors vital to the sustainable growth of biodiesel production in India. Under the project, WII will be conducting a series of extensive research on specific areas within the sector such as current levels of expelling efficiency of oilseeds, estimation of Jatropha plantation in India, research carried out on biodieselrun engine performances, types of biodiesel production methods in practice, utilization of byproducts of the industry and upcoming production technologies to be mainstreamed in the future.
Activities
The report will be compiled through a combination of field surveys and review of existing secondary literature. Necessary meetings and consultations will also be organized with manufacturers, industry experts and other relevant stakeholders.
