Background
Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) has appointed WII as the executing agency for implementing its Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) program in two prominent energy intensive industrial clusters namely Chemical Industries’ cluster, Ahmedabad and Brass Industries’ cluster, Jamnagar.
Objective
The underlying objective of the program is to reduce energy intensity of Indian economy by bringing-in sustenance in the development, adoption and implementation of EE measures in the Indian SME sector. The specific objectives of the project include: - Baseline situation assessment by conducting industrial energy audits in the cluster covering large number of industrial units
- Benchmarking of key energy intensive process steps and equipments and identification of feasible EE technologies for each potential process, suitable to different production capacities
- Capacity building of Local Service Providers, Technical Consulting Organizations, industrial community, development and support institutions and other stakeholders for continued development, adoption, implementation and promotion of EE measures in the cluster
- Identification and development of innovative institutional financing mechanisms for facilitation of faster implementation of identified EE measures.
Activities
The ongoing activities in both the clusters have generated immense interest among the stakeholders and have sought active participation from various segments of the cluster. The outcome of baseline and benchmarking studies has been documented in the form of cluster manuals and suitable EE measures have been identified for each cluster. Various cluster level workshops are being organized for different target groups among the stakeholders for the purpose of capacity building and information dissemination. The technical and financial feasibility of the identified technologies will be established by development of bankable Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). The DPRs will not only assist the SMEs in obtaining institutional financing for their technological upgradation needs, but will also assist the financing institutions in assessing the feasibility of finance requirement stated by SMEs. |
