Narrative description of Project:
The project aims at building a comprehensive database of the factors vital to the sustainable promotion of biodiesel in India. Under the project, Winrock International India will be conducting extensive surveys on parameters such as current levels of expelling efficiency of oilseeds, the extent of Jatropha plantation in India, and the types of biodiesel production methods in practice and in development for the future. The reports will also detail biodiesel specifications and the applications of different blends, research carried out on biodiesel-run engine performances and the efforts being meted out towards the utilization of byproducts of the industry. The above data will be compiled by conducting extensive online research, discussions with manufacturers, industry experts and other relevant stakeholders. The project is for two years and ends in September 2011.

The multi-phase and multi-year initiative has achieved its objective by way of successful completion of above activities in the demonstration phase. The project has generated immense replication potential owing to substantial decrease in fossil fuel consumption, improvement in work place environment and huge monetary benefits by reduction in scale losses. Further, it remains to leverage additional support by facilitating convergence of other government initiatives and subsequently undertake accompanying measures to up scale the demonstrated technological option.
