Economic, Social and Environmental benefits through the use of Fuel efficient stoves in hotels / dhabas / street side eateries in Mahbubnagar district, Andhra Pradesh
This project is supported by the Sir Ratan Tata Trust (SRTT) to facilitate efficient use of fuel resources, improving the work place environment and the health conditions of the cooks through fuel efficient and smoke-free stoves in dhabas, hotels & restaurants in Mahbubnagar district in Andhra Pradesh.
Objectives
To replace/ modify the existing in-efficient cook stoves in dhabas , small hotels and restaurants with highly fuel efficient stoves equipped with heat recovery and smoke elimination systems, thereby improving the indoor air quality in kitchen, reducing the fuel consumption substantially and also positively influencing the deforestation and local and global climate change.
To enhance the performance and competitiveness of small hotels, restaurants, hostels and dhabas in Mahbubnagar by achieving savings in firewood and food hygiene.
To build the capacity of local masons and fabricators in the design and construction of energy-efficient stoves with the aim of creating new livelihood/ employment opportunities.
To improve the health conditions of the workmen employed in these hotels and dhabas by improving indoor air quality and mitigating heat radiation from in-efficient stoves.
Achievements so far
Awareness generation activities conducted in the district for various users such as dhabas, hotels, restaurants, road-side eateries. Identified 10 potential dhabas / hotels interested in upgrading their stoves. Identification of masons & fabricators for training & skill up gradation is being done. One-page brochure has been prepared on energy efficient stoves for dissemination to the users and stakeholders. Mid-term report has been submitted to SRTT.
