 Winrock International India (WII) successfully executed in this project under the energy efficiency capacity building initiatives of IREDA. IREDA had financed this project from the line of credit received from IBRD/IDA/GEF toward the cost of "India: Second Renewable Energy Project."
The aim of this capacity building initiative was to impart training to bank officials on opportunities for financing energy efficiency projects in different sectors of the economy. The participants in the training programs were from all types of banks that is public sector, private sector and large co-operative and regional rural banks, besides financial institutions all across the country.

This initiative was intended to help bankers in understanding the importance of financing energy efficiency projects, type and size of projects, and ways and means to tap huge potential in this area. Various financing models were explained through case studies to ensure comfort level of bankers on the financial viability of energy efficiency projects and the potential business opportunity for them.
In all, 43 training programs were organized all over India in two phases. The program was a huge success and around 1100 bank officials from 75 banks (Public sector/Private/Co-operative and Rural) were trained. The feedback from the participants about these programs was very encouraging and they suggested more number of such programs to be conducted covering more banks all over the India.
