The project is an award under the Women’s Scientist scheme of Department of Science and Technology and aims at training the Monpa tribal community on techniques of landscape restoration. Restoration will also be undertaken on a pilot scale in a degraded land area. The forests are facing tremendous pressure due to lopping and clearance for shifting cultivation. Restoration projects like this wherein the local community is trained will help in restoring the lost biodiversity of the are and also ensure long term sustainability of such restoration projects.
