Winrock International India (WII) is a non-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act XXI of 1860, working in the areas of natural resources management, clean energy and climate change. WII works out of its headquarters in New Delhi and its project offices in Hyderabad (Andhra Pradesh), Bhadohi (Uttar Pradesh) Kawardha (Chhattisgarh), Thrissur (Kerala), Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and Tawang(Arunanchal Pradesh). Our mission is to "develop and implement solutions that balance the need for food, income and environmental quality."
Winrock International India has been accorded recognition as a Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (SIRO) by the Department of Scientific & Industrial Research (DSIR), Ministry of Science & Technology, Government of India, under the Scheme on Recognition of Scientific and Industrial Research Organizations (SIROs)-1988.
The thrust of WII’s efforts are to:
- Encourage and empower primary users of natural resources to sustainably manage the resources that they depend on using participatory approaches, and develop long-term strategies to adopt livelihoods of their choice,
- Promote energy efficiency and use of renewable energy for rural development and for a cleaner environment,
- Understand and address the challenges of global climate change, and
- Reach out to involve people, communities and institutions to strengthen our efforts to develop and implement sustainable solutions.
WII works with a diverse set of partner institutions. Foremost among them is our affiliate, Winrock International, a global non-profit organization with headquarters in Arkansas, USA, and presence in over from 50 countries around the world. In India, WII collaborates with other NGOs, private sector, donor agencies and the Government to form competent teams of professionals to address contemporary developmental challenges.
WII currently has around 65 full-time staff, and a number of consultants, with plans to expand further with new projects coming its way. WII staff and resource persons are qualified, experienced, innovative professionals with multi-disciplinary strengths in resource economics, sociology, institutional development, engineering, education and information sciences - specialists and consultants conversant with field conditions in India.
